The Helianthemum nummularium or retriever is a perennial plant, which reaches a height of 5 to 45 centimeters, whose stems branch a lot. These stems are procumbent or ascending, and from them sprout elliptical or linear-lanceolate leaves of green color on the upper surface and with the veins somewhat prominent on the underside. The flowers are 2-3cm in diameter, and are yellow. The fruit is a 6 to 8mm capsule, covered with abundant villi. The seeds are reddish-brown, 1.5mm in size.

It is native to Europe, except for Iceland and Norway, as well as western Asia. In Spain we find it in the northern half of the peninsula and in the Sierra Nevada.

If you want to have a copy, we recommend you provide the following care:

  • Location: it must be outside, ideally in full sun.
  • Land:
    • Pot: universal growing medium (you can buy it here ) mixed with 30% perlite.
    • Garden: grows in limestone or siliceous soils, it even does well in rocky soils.
  • Watering: it should be watered about 3-4 times a week in summer, and every 4 or 5 days the rest of the year.
  • Subscriber: it is not very necessary, and less if it is planted in the garden, but a monthly contribution of ecological fertilizers will not hurt.
  • Multiplication: by seeds in spring.
  • Pruning: at the end of winter if necessary.
  • Rusticity: withstands cold and frost down to -10ºC.
