16 ecological insecticides, fungicides and repellants for garden pests


I propose these 16 natural remedies to prevent and combat pests in the garden and garden in an ecological way.

1.- Garlic

A very simple remedy to prepare that will help you against fungi, bacteria, aphids and mites. Leave about 3 garlic in a liter of water for 24 hours in a partially covered container. 3.- Oil

Vegetable oil can be a good remedy to eliminate mealybug pests. You can use any vegetable oil, such as sunflower or olive oil and apply with a brush or fine brush directly on the cochineal.

4.- Paraffin oil

For mites, aphids and mealybugs pests mainly. Dilute a tablespoon of paraffin oil in 10 liters of water and apply to the affected area.

5.- Very cold water

It is very effective in fighting aphid pests. Spray twice a day: first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. It is very important that the water is very cold, icy!

6.- Sodium bicarbonate

It is a natural remedy to prevent the appearance of fungi or to eliminate them if they have already made an appearance on the plants. It is effective for mildew and powdery mildew. Dilute 2 tablespoons in a liter of water and spray the area you want to treat twice a day for a week. If you want to reinforce the action you can add a teaspoon of neutral soap.

7.- Onion

If you are concerned about spider mite, whitefly or aphid pests, reassure you. Cut two large onions and leave them to marinate in two liters of water for 4 days, then strain and spray the affected areas twice a day. You can reinforce the action of this preparation by adding half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper powder.

8.- Horsetail

Excellent and very effective for mainly fungal diseases, but it is also used for mites, whiteflies and aphids. Besides having insecticidal action, horsetail strengthens plants. Let 500 g of fresh plant marinate in 4 liters of water for 24 hours. Then strain and spray the areas you want to treat.

9.- Orange peels or peels

When you eat an orange, do not throw away the peel because it can serve to attract slugs or limacos and snails from your orchard or garden. Place them face down forming in shady and humid areas and in the morning you will see the snails and slugs attached to the inside, since they will use them as shelter.

10.- Nettle

In addition to reinforcing the general condition of the plant, nettle is very good for spider mite and aphid pests. It is also effective for mildew. Macerate 0.5 kg of fresh nettle in 5 liters of water for a week. Strain and apply twice a day.

11.- Tomatoes

The branches and leaves of the tomato plants can be used to make an aphid repellent preparation. You need 200 g of fresh tomato that you will mix with 2 liters of water. Let it marinate for 48 hours and then strain it. Spray the plants to be treated twice a day.

12.- Ashes

The ashes must come from woods without paint or other synthetic components. Apply around the plant or plants that you want to protect and thus ensure that snails and slugs or limacos will not access the plants. Leave a distance between the ash and the stem of about 8 cm.

13.- Birds

They can be great allies of the gardeners, especially to combat the pests of aphids, snails, slugs and caterpillars.

14.- Borage

If you grow it, you will be keeping the caterpillars away. Plant borage around the plants that are more susceptible to its attack and thus we will be avoiding pests in the future.

15.- Calendula or wonder

It is very effective in repelling the whitefly. You have to grow it around plants that most frequently suffer from the whitefly infestation. Growing basil is also effective in repelling whitefly
