characteristics

It is a perennial herbaceous plant with a contracted stem that can reach 25 to 30 cm in height. Its long, narrow leaves grow out of alignment heading in all directions from the center.

The Anthurium Scherzerianum Schott is slow growing , and prefers warm and humid environments. Flowering occurs from spring to late fall. The attractive part is made up of a red spathe that develops at the base of the inflorescence in the shape of an orange harpoon.

Environment

It needs a well-lit place, near a window, protected from direct sunlight. It does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature and it is important to avoid drafts. Temperatures below 12 ° C cause deterioration in Anthurium; on the other hand, the high temperatures and the high environmental humidity favor it.

Floor

The appropriate medium for the cultivation of Anthurium is provided by the mixture of peat, river hangover and common black earth in equal parts.

Anthurium indoors

The environmental conditions of a normal house allow the cultivation of this species when it has reached a great development in heated greenhouses. Transfer the plants to the new medium in spring when flowering begins for their best adaptation.

Irrigation

Only once a week in winter; in spring and summer every two or three days, to keep the substrate moist. The water should not stagnate because it damages the roots.

Fertilizers

With a solution of 0.5 grams of granulated compound (15-15-15) dissolved in a liter of water, you should make three applications every 15 days in spring to promote growth and later flowering.

Environment humidity

The humidity conditions you need in Anthurium are achieved with a daily spray of the foliage with rainwater.

Considerations

  • Propagation by seed should be done in a warm environment with a high percentage of environmental humidity.
  • Adult plants grown under favorable conditions flourish for many years.
  • It needs a dry period of 15 days in winter to stimulate sprouting and spring flowering.
  • The flowers last on the plant for 25 to 30 days with their lustrous and firm bracts.
  • The plant should be kept away from heaters.
