Coconut, properties and health benefits

Coconut , a fruit of tropical origin of which can be obtained from coconut oil , milk and coconut cream , grated coconut or also called  coconut flour , coconut water , coconut sugar , desiccated coconut and of course, fresh coconut .

The coconut is the fruit of the coconut tree or coconut tree, Cocos nucifera , native to the Pacific. It can weigh between 2 and 3 kilos and contain 300 ml of coconut water inside, although the more mature the coconut, the lower its water content. The pulp of the coconut, the edible part of the fruit, is white.

Nutritional value of fresh coconut

Of every 100 grams of fresh coconut, 47 are water, 36 are saturated fat, 4 are carbohydrates and 3 are vegetable protein. It also gives us 10 grams of dietary fiber.

From the mineral content of coconut, we highlight that it is rich in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium and iodine.

In terms of vitamins, fresh coconut has vitamin C, B3 or niacin, E or tocopherol, B6 or pyridoxine, B1 or thiamine, B2 or riboflavin, and B9 or folate.

The fresh coconut gives us 350 kilocalories per 100 grams, while the shredded coconut has 600 kilocalories per 100 grams and coconut oil rises to 900 kilocalories per 100 grams.
