Semi-woody shrub 1 to 2 m high , with a brown herbaceous stem with opposite leaves, slightly serrated edges, oval in shape, a little darker green on the upper surface and a texture similar to velvet. The flowers are violet or pinkish purple, large, consisting of 5 petals and 10 stamens.

Tibouchina urvellina care

Tibouchina urvellina requires a light exposure, but without direct sun all year round, except in winter, as it requires a few hours of sun.

The temperatures can be those of the environment, but in the winter it requires a rest at 10-15˚C. When it freezes, the vegetation can burn, although it sprouts again in the spring.

The soil should be a mixture of equal parts mulch, sand, and peat. The transplant of the plant should be in the spring in a pot of greater dimension. It is usually a tutor or support when the stems are robust to prevent them from breaking.

The irrigation must be abundant, but without getting to flood. In spring and summer, place a little wet gravel under the pot to improve the humidity. In the winter it is enough that the earth is a little wet.

Compost should be every 15 days with a fertilizer in the spring and summer so that it can grow vigorously.

Pruning should be in early spring. To do this, you have to remove the main stems in half and the secondary ones leave them with 2 leaves.

They multiply from cuttings in early spring, assisting with rooting hormones.

Among the pests that can attack Tibouchina urvellina are the flat mealybug and the woolly mealybug, especially if the environment is dry.
