The Devil’s Claw , Harpagophytum procumbens , also popularly known as devil’s claw or devil’s claw , is a plant native to Africa, specifically the Kalahari desert, where some ethnic groups have traditionally used the root of the devil’s claw for its medicinal properties .

It belongs to the Pedaliaceae family and is a herbaceous perennial plant with fleshy and hard leaves, flowers in pink tones and a quite important root, which can grow to more than one and a half meters.

The root of the devil’s nail contains several active principles that are what give it its medicinal properties. Some of these components are iridoids, triterpenic, flavonoids or phenylpropanes.
