From the end of February and April the aubergine is sown ( sowing calendar ). You can prepare seedlings or seedlings if you are in an area with a continental climate or sow directly if you are in an area with a temperate climate. The common thing is that the seeds take a couple of weeks to germinate. Try to keep them at an approximate temperature of between 19 and 23 ºC, this will favor the success of germination. Seedlings or seedlings are very simple to make … as long as you know, so that you have no doubts and everything goes well, read this post.

Eggplant transplant

If you have opted for sowing in seedlings or seedbeds, in about 6 to 9 weeks you will have to transplant the seedlings to their final place of cultivation in the organic garden. If, on the other hand, you have acquired seedlings, you should also transplant them to your garden. The transplant can be a delicate moment for the little plant, so make sure you know the steps to take well, I explain them here . Do not leave less than 40 cm² between plant and plant because otherwise the space is overcrowded and they do not receive sunlight or air can circulate properly between the aerial parts of the plant.

Substratum

It is a type of crops that prefer fertile soils rich in organic matter to grow properly. Before growing the eggplant, apply compost or worm castings to the soil. The substrate must have good drainage, be well aerated, soft and with a pH between 6.5 and 8. If you are going to grow aubergines in pots, the container should ideally be 40 cm deep to allow a good development of the roots, which in the case Eggplant concrete are quite deep.

Weather

This plant is sensitive to cold and prefers temperate to warm climates. In fact, too low or humid temperatures cause the flowers to fall and can reduce the flowering and fertilization process, obtaining less fruit. Avoid growing your eggplants in areas with strong currents or winds because they can damage them.

Watering the eggplant

Maintain regular waterings, especially during flowering and fruit formation, but without excesses because the eggplant does not withstand the soil that is too humid and immediately wreaks havoc. The drip irrigation is very useful and efficient, put into practice.

Light

Find a good location with direct sun to grow eggplants. These types of plants need at least 6 to 7 hours of direct sunlight to develop in the best conditions. It is one of the most demanding plants in terms of light.
