Home remedies to avoid and eliminate fleas in dogs and cats naturally

The cats and especially the dogs can be “attacked” by   fleas at any time, but could be very annoying for our partners and for us, but also can be very dangerous because fleas are carriers of diseases so we should be Be careful and act fast if we suspect they may have these parasites, or use them from time to time to prevent them.

In addition to applying these remedies directly on them, we must also do it on the area where they sleep or tend to be, since only adult fleas remain in their hair while the rest are usually in the environment where the dog is longer or the cat. Always avoid the eye and muzzle area. We are going to see some home remedies to avoid and eliminate fleas .

Essential oils to repel and fight fleas:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Mint
  • Lavender
  • Thyme
  • Cedar
  • Lemongrass or citronella
  • Basil
  • Tea tree (do not use in cats)
  • Clove
  • Lemon
  • Geranium

> We can make various combinations by mixing 4 or 5 of these essential oils in equal parts, except with the tea tree, lavender or citronella that we will use twice as much, which we will use to impregnate the collar worn by the dog or cat or even to apply on their beds. When you notice that the necklace no longer smells of oils, repeat again (if you want with a different combination). You can dilute the oils with a tablespoon or two of water.

>  The  neem oil  is very effective in repelling parasites, including fleas. Apply before bathing directly on the skin. You can repeat every time you bathe it. This solution is especially beneficial for cats that are more prone to licking. You can also add neem oil to the gel you normally use.

> Another home remedy is to add to 100 ml of 96º alcohol four of the oils indicated above in equal parts (about 30 drops), except with the lavender, tea tree or lemongrass oils, which we will use twice as much and we will always include some of these three in each preparation that we make. Shake well and apply against the grain with a spray once a day before going out (avoid applying it to the face). Store in an opaque glass jar.

> Another homemade way to repel fleas is, after bathing, to make a final rinse with 100 ml of vinegar diluted in 1 liter of water. Avoid the face area.

> To spray on the area where the dog or cat usually sleeps, dilute 100 ml of vinegar in 1 liter of water and add 10 drops of lavender or cedar oil.

> Pour 100 ml of boiling water over 2 tablespoons of rosemary or eucalyptus and let it rest for 30 minutes. Strain and add it to 1 liter of water. Use it as the last rinse when you bathe your dog or cat.
