How to make liquid stevia at home

To make it easier to use this sweet medicinal plant, I am going to show you how to make a liquid sweetener with stevia at home that you can use in teas and infusions, juices, vegetable milks, ice creams, lemonades and in other hot or cold drinks. of all kinds of desserts and sweets, etc.

How to make liquid stevia for sweetening

You only need: 20g of fresh leaves or half of dried stevia leaves, Vodka (or any other alcohol for food use that has an approximate graduation of 40º), a dark glass jar, gauze or cloth to strain and saucepan.


  1. Cut the stevia leaves by making two cuts, one lengthwise and one widthwise, and put them in an opaque glass jar. When you finish with all the leaves add the vodka or alcohol of your choice. You have to add enough alcohol to be able to completely cover all the leaves. Store the jar in a kitchen cabinet for no more than 48 hours (otherwise the extract might taste bitter).
  2. Before it reaches 48 hours, strain the stevia by pressing a little with a mortar or other utensil to extract all the juice from the leaves.
  3. You put the resulting liquid in a saucepan over low heat for 25 to 30 minutes. You must prevent it from boiling, it is important that it is over low heat because we do not want it to boil, simply to remove the alcohol and to concentrate. You will notice that it gets a bit darker and has a bit thicker texture.
  4. Remove from the heat, let it cool for 10 minutes and pour the liquid stevia extract into a dark glass jar, preferably with a dropper so that you can dose it more easily.


Store it in the fridge or refrigerator and you will have liquid stevia for three months. Remember to put a label with the date it was prepared.

This extract is very concentrated, with one drop you have enough to sweeten a coffee.
