How to make rooting water for the plants in your garden or organic garden

There are many ways to propagate the horticultural and ornamental plants that we will grow in our orchard or garden . Broadly speaking, we can divide reproduction into sexual and asexual. A cutting would be included in asexual reproduction and the new plants that we obtain would be clones of the mother plant.

To obtain the cutting we simply have to cut a branch of the mother plant and plant it, but to make sure that the roots of this cutting come out and develop correctly we are going to prepare a rooting water with hormones that stimulates its growth.

Rooting water with bark hormones Willow ( Salix spp .)

In the bark of the willow we can find growth hormones that stimulate the appearance and development of the roots of the silver, so its use is very interesting and of great help when we make cuttings.

To make the rooting water you need:

  • Between 5 and 10 young willow branches about 10 cm long (we cut only the last 10 cm of the branch), about 200 g
  • 1 liter of water
  • Pair of scissors
  • Funnel
  • Strainer
  • A large bowl or bowl
  • 1 container to store the rooting water

Cut only the last 10 cm of each branch, we are looking for the youngest branches and the ends of these are the richest in growth hormones. Remove the leaves from the branches and save them to make infusions.

Cut the branches as finely as possible and pour them into the basin and add water until all the pieces of willow are completely covered. Cover and leave for 48 hours.

After 48 hours strain and save the water in a container using the funnel and the strainer. This water can be stored in the fridge or refrigerator and lasts in perfect conditions for up to 2 months, while if you leave it at room temperature in a dark place it could last up to 3 weeks.

How To Use Hormone Rooting Water

Take the mother plant, of which you want to obtain clones, and cut the new branches that are about 5 to 7 cm long. Make a diagonal cut with the scissors. When we have the twig cut, we eliminate the leaves closest to the cut, leaving only the leaves that are in the upper part.

Pour a small amount of the homemade willow rooting agent that we have prepared in a container (which could be the top of the bottle) and we are immersing the part of the cut (where the roots will come from) of each of the twigs in this liquid so that get soaked well.

Then we directly plant the cuttings in their final place of growth, either in the ground or in pots.

Water the cuttings carefully.

Of course, this rooting water with growth hormones can also be used when you prepare seedlings or seedlings , when you perform transplants or when you want to stimulate the development of the roots of the plants.
