Learn how to care for La Silene and how it spreads

Silene is a genus consisting of 500 different species of plants grasses, some are annuals, biennials or perennials, all originating in Africa, Asia and Europe. The Silene has opposite leaves and flowers and whole can become lonely or be gathered in peaks.

Calyx is tubular and has five teeth while the corolla has five petals. Most of these plants are invasive if you let them grow freely. Annual and biannual species are used for the formation of borduras and solid surfaces and plants to cover land where it is desired not to plant grass. On the other hand, the vivacious species are suitable for implantation in rockeries and alpine gardens.

The Silene care throughout the year

Due to the large number of different species, many of them have soil and orientation requirements, making it difficult to offer generic data. However, what is true is that there is a great variety for each type of terrain, so it should not present any type of problem in terms of the quality of the soil if you want to have some Silene bushes in your garden . As an example, the Silene schafta species grows appropriately in well-drained soil with exposure to the sun.

On the other hand, the Silene acaulis species is the most delicate, while the compact Silene is best grown in permeable soils in a ventilated and sunny place, but it is afraid of humidity and sudden changes in temperature, which is why it prefers clays. Perennials can be planted at any time of year, but it is best to do it in the fall and winter.

The multiplication of the annual Silene species is easily effected through seeds. On the other hand, the Silene coeli-rosa and pendula species can be sown directly on the final site, either in autumn or spring. In the first case, its flowering will take place at the end of spring, and in the second when the summer ends. They can reproduce by seeds .
