Meet the Dicentra spectabilis, whose attraction is its heart-shaped flowers

Dicentra spectabilis, later called Lamprocapnos spectabillis. But in a vulgar way it is known as Bleeding Heart, Heart of Mary, Virgin Heart, Flowers in the heart, Dicentra or Fumaria. It belongs to the Papaveraceae family and is native to East Asia from Siberia to southern Japan.

Characteristics of the Dicentra spectabilis

Vivacious herbaceous plant with rhizomatous or tuberous roots that can reach a height of 70 cm.

The leaves are deciduous and compound with bluish-green indentations.

The flowers are pink that appear on the long branches, they are heart-shaped pendulums. The inner petal is white with the appearance of a drop about to fall. It blooms from early spring to early fall (depending on where it is located).

The fruits are 2-shell capsules.
