Month by month: what to plant in the vegetable garden

The success of a good garden also involves planting the right fruits, herbs, vegetables and vegetables at the right times. If you have doubts about the most suitable month to plant anything in your garden, print out this checklist and keep it close by. Then just harvest and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

1. January (Northern Hemisphere) | July (Southern Hemisphere)

>What to plant/ sow in the garden: lettuce , garlic, peas, broad beans, radishes, cabbage.

2. February (Northern Hemisphere) | August (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant/ sow in the garden: white celery, artichokes, onions , various cabbages, asparagus, strawberries, peppers, tomatoes (on the ground); melon, watermelon, cucumber (in pot). 

3. March (Northern Hemisphere) | September (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: pumpkin, lettuce, beets, onions, carrots, cabbages, peas, spinach, broad beans, climbing beans, lentils, melons, watermelons, turnips, turnips, cucumbers , radishes, parsley, tomatoes.

4. April (Northern Hemisphere) | October (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: pumpkin, chard, watercress, lettuce, potatoes , beets, broccoli, carrots, chicory, coriander, cumin, various cabbages, broad beans, beans, melons, watermelons, turnips, peppers, radishes, parsley, thyme (on the ground); onion, cucumber, tomato (in nursery).

5. May (Northern Hemisphere) | November (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: pumpkin, watercress, lettuce, beets, broccoli , carrots, cabbages, spinach, beans, melons, watermelons, turnips, cucumbers, peppers, radishes, cabbage.   

6. June (Northern Hemisphere) | December (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: pumpkin, watercress, lettuce, beets, broccoli, carrots, cabbages, spinach, beans, melons, watermelons, turnips, cucumbers, peppers, radishes, cabbage.   

7. July (Northern Hemisphere) | January (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: watercress, lettuce, purslane, carrot, Brussels sprouts, spinach, climbing/ dwarf beans, turnips, radishes, cabbage, parsley.   

8. August (Northern Hemisphere) | February (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: watercress, lettuce, chicory, spinach, beans, parsley, radishes, cabbage (on the ground); beets, various cabbages, peas , spinach, beans (in greenhouse).

9. September (Northern Hemisphere) | March (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant/ sow in the garden: watercress, celery , lettuce, garlic, onion, carrot, chicory, coriander, various cabbages, peas, broad beans, beans, strawberries, turnips, radishes, cabbage, parsley. 

10. October (Northern Hemisphere) | April (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: watercress, garlic, beets, carrots, coriander, peas, asparagus , spinach, broad beans, lentils, strawberries, turnips, radishes (on the ground); lettuce, onion, various cabbages (in pot/ greenhouse).

11. November (Northern Hemisphere) | May (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: garlic, lettuce, oats, potatoes, onions , rye, barley, various cabbages, broad beans, strawberries, lupines, wheat.

12. December (Northern Hemisphere) | June (Southern Hemisphere)

What to plant / sow in the garden: apple trees, pear trees.
