Pansy Malvón (Pelargonium Domesticum Bailey)

The Malvón Pansy is a plant that is grown for its beautiful flowering in gardens, flowerpots, bright balconies and sunny windows. It belongs to the Geraniaceae family and is of Cultigenic origin.

characteristics

Perennial plant, highly branched, with semi-woody and pubescent stems; reaches from 0.5 to 1.5 meters in height. Reniform leaves, rounded on the upper edge and sharply serrated; 5 to 10 cm in diameter. Large flowers 4 to 6 cm in diameter, with pure white to almost black petals; the upper two with dark spots. Most varieties have bicolor and tricolor flowers.

Floor

It prefers loose, fertile and deep soils; adapts to slightly clayey or compact ones but with good fertility. Where the malvón thought is located should not be flooded. Soil mixed with moderate amounts of river runoff and sand improves drainage and fertility. The substrate for growing the pansy mallow in a pot is composed of 6 parts of black soil, 3 parts of river hangover and 1 part of sand or perlite. The minimum depth of the soil must be 20 cm for the good development of the roots

Plantation

It is planted outdoors from mid-spring, spaced 35-40 centimeters apart, with its respective ground loaves.

Fertilization and irrigation

Flowering improves with the use of 20-30 grams of bone meal per plant or 300 grams per square meter of flowerbed, incorporated into the soil at the time of planting. Water every 2-3 days avoiding wetting the foliage and flowers.

Spread

The pansy mallow is made by cutting in summer or early spring.

Care

  • Requires full sun, flowers well exposed to direct sunlight for at least 4 hours a day.
  • Shorten shoots with pruning in spring to encourage sprouting.
  • Protect it from the midday sunlight so the young leaves don’t burn.
  • Spray with a gibberellic acid solution in spring to activate flowering.
  • Renew the plants every two to three years.
  • Provide a humid atmosphere.
  • Its resistance to cold is regular, it does not tolerate intense frosts.
  • Good adaptation, rustic and easy to grow.
  • Resistant to parasitic causes .
