Tormentilla, a medicinal plant for colic, colds, hypertension or dermatitis.

The Tormentilla (Potentilla erecta (L.) Rauschel) is an annual herb of the Rosaceae family , with forked stems and about 20 cm. long, green leaves composed of 3 or 7 oval leaflets, serrated on the margin and somewhat hairy on the underside; yellow flowers with four petals, axillary and solitary, dried fruit and reddish rhizome.

ACTIVE PRINCIPLES OF TORMENTILLA:

EFFECTS OF THE TORMENTILLE:

Due to its richness in tannins, it is a good astringent drug: antidiarrheal, local hemostatic, healing. In addition, its effects have been evidenced as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-allergenic, antihypertensive, immunostimulating and antiviral.

INDICATIONS OF THE TORMENTILLA:

Intestinal colic, diarrhea, prevention and treatment of flu syndromes and colds, adjunct in the treatment of arterial hypertension. Hemorrhoids, capillary fragility, functional uterine hemorrhages, varicose veins.

In topical use: wounds, burns, stomatitis, glossitis, periodontitis, pharyngitis, anal fissures, dermal and corneal ulcerations, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, oral problems, erythema, stretch marks, itching, vulvovaginitis, post-shave (lotion) and nasal bleeding.

TORMENTILLA CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Hyposecretory dyspepsia.

THERAPEUTIC USE AND DOSE OF TORMENTILLA:

Internal use:

* Decoction: 30 g / l, boil 10 minutes. Three or four cups a day.

* Fluid extract (1: 1): 30-50 drops, one to three times a day.

* Tincture (1:10): 50-100 drops, one to three times a day.

External use:

* Maceration or decoction at 5%. Apply in the form of lotions, compresses, mouthwashes, gargles or vaginal irrigations.
