Zephyranthes carinata or Rain Lily care

Zephyranthes carinata also known as Rain Lily, Heart of Mary, Pink Goblin, Tears of Mary or Cefirante . It belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family, of the genus Zephyranthes, of which there are usually about 70 species of bulbous plants. It is originally from Mexico.

Zephyranthes carinata characteristics

Bulbous herbaceous plant  that can grow to about 30 cm in height.

The leaves are canaliculate (grooved in the center), narrow and green.

The flowers are campanuliform, pink with yellow parts. It blooms in the summer. After the rains it blooms, producing open star-shaped flowers with 6 to 8 petals with rounded tips.

It is a specimen that is used for terraces, borders, decorating rockeries or to form isolated groups.

It requires being in full sun or semi-shade. When the winter weather is too cold, the plant cannot remain in the ground, so the bulbs must be sheltered.

In cold areas it is grown in pots and indoors.

As for the soil, this must be sand, organic matter and leaf mulch so that the substrate is permeable.

Watering should be done regularly in the vegetative period of the plant. Later it will become more scarce and suspend when the leaves turn yellow.
