The plant, usually placed in embellishment inside homes and offices, has a considerable need to be wet, based on its position and above all on the current climatic season. In spring and summer it will be generously and constantly watered, even with periodic moistening of the foliage, while the wetting will be considerably moderate and limited in the cold period, as well as carried out only in the presence of dry or even withered soil.In irrigation, absolute care must be taken not to cause puddles or water stagnations, potentially capable of damage the roots of Calathea, weakening it.

Plant care and cultivation

As already mentioned above, Calathea is typically a plant to be placed inside the house and must be equipped with soil full of organic components, such as peat, and sandy materials, in order to ensure less overall compactness of the base and greater efficiency of Periodically, with the arrival of the first spring days it will be possible to carry out repotting works of the evergreen, but it is advisable to do this only if the root system, of considerable size, has completely saturated the container and prevents the regular nourishment of the plant. , no particular pruning operations of the perennial herb should be carried out, as the simple removal, with the appropriate tool, of the old branches and yellowed or dried leaves is completely sufficient.

Fertilization and fertilization of the evergreen

As far as fertilization is concerned, a few simple rules must be followed: as a rule, the plant is placed in a medium-sized container and must therefore be fertilized regularly, to ensure the right nutrients. , more or less once every 13 – 14 days, and appropriately decreased in the autumn and winter period, with at least monthly intervals between one fertilization and the next. liquid nature, diluted in water for watering. In any case, specific fertilizers for the type of evergreen should be favored, with significant presence, as well as the necessary microelements, of nitrogen and potassium components.

The Calathea: Exposure and possible diseases

The herbaceous plant, although it needs considerable attention, can be kept healthy inside the house all year round, but it must be placed in a humid and not particularly bright environment, never in direct sunlight. Being very resistant, it can also lodge in semi-shaded or almost completely shady places, avoiding, however, subjecting it to sudden changes in climate and air flows. The climatic conditions, however, must be constantly warm over the seasons, with temperatures never below 20 ° C. Finally, the evergreen can be subjected to attacks by insects and parasites, such as the red spider and the fearsome cochineal. In this case, they must be removed promptly, either by hand or using a specific insecticide.
