Tulips: groups, types and periods

The tulips are of medium and short stature, the flowering period is very long and of a very constant color. To tulips belong, Mickey Mouse, Christmas Dream, Prinses Irene, Apricot Beauty. Mickey Mouse tulips have a very resistant stem, fiery red in color and with an intense yellow background, giving them a very special chromatic effect. The Christmas Dream tulip is the first to sprout, coloring the garden a magnificent and very intense red. The Prinses Irene tulip, very useful for embellishing flower beds or gardens, is grown in pots or in the ground, with a period of very intense sun exposure; it blooms continuously and is flamed brown orange. The Apricot Beauty tulip, generally 35 cm tall, blooms with spectacular pink petals.

Care, maintenance and period of tulip types.

The tulip is a flower that is sown in the cold months between October and November when the temperature remains below 15 °. During the sowing period the bulb passes from a first phase of “cold period” of 12/14 weeks to then be able to be sown. Tulips must be planted in a land exposed to the sun for a good part of the day and in the remaining part of the shade, as they need fresh soil. The choice and the period of the soil that must be drained and sandy is very important, as the tulip does not like excessive humidity. A very important rule is how to plant the bulbs, as they must be inserted into the ground at a depth of about 3 times the height of the bulb, 15 cm apart. Once planted, you need to water them, while the leaves just need to be sprayed.

Method, timing and period of fertilization of tulips

Tulips generally do not have particular fertilization needs. The fertilization phase must be done once a month before and after flowering, and then repeat the operation again in autumn. The fertilizers to be used must contain little nitrogen and be very rich in phosphorus and potassium, if desired, you can also use mature manure. The fertilization period is important, as it serves to grow healthy and lush flowers. Even if the tulips themselves grow robust even naturally, it is advisable to fertilize them. Another important phase and not to be underestimated is the phase after covering the bulbs as they must be covered with a compact layer of leaves so that for greater protection of the bulbs. Furthermore, the fertilizer is effective for about 3/4 weeks.

Tulips period: Pruning phase and tulip harvesting period

The bulbs of tulips, even after having made the leaves bloom, will continue to perform their function by storing light and transforming it into energy. This very particular phase called “PHOTOSYNTHESIS” is very important as it will allow a next more luxuriant flowering. It is very important that this useful period occurs before cutting the leaves. For a good pruning, the cut must be performed with a scissor at the base of the plant when the leaves are completely yellowed, thus not damaging the plant itself and any green leaves. Therefore a particular pruning technique is not required but it is sufficient to eliminate the yellowed sheets, taking care to still leave those with green traces. obviously we must also eliminate the dried flowers so that the plant does not waste useful energy.
