Tiger mosquito repellent plants

Nature has a romantic fairytale charm, if it weren’t for the nasty presence of mosquitoes! The most peaceful night can be seen interrupted in the most inopportune way by the buzzing of a tiger mosquito, obviously female, near the ears.

characteristics

Ocinum basilicum (basil)

Although this scenario is bad enough, there is a worse one, that the mosquito achieves its mission and bites the person, causing a discomfort that can remain even for days. However, there are several strategies that can be applied to prevent the insect from developing in the environment, one of them is the appropriate plants that repel the tiger mosquito.

The tiger mosquito ( Aedes albopictus ) is native to southwestern Asia, where rainforests abound. This species has proliferated with success especially at the beginning of the XXI century in certain parts of Europe, especially towards the Mediterranean coast.

Among the aspects that must be known about this species of insect is that they can transmit many diseases through the bite. Although health control has not allowed urban populations to suffer from these diseases such as Dengue or Chikungunya, it is better to avoid the multiplication of the mosquito.

The first thing to know is that the tiger mosquito, like other species of these insects, requires stagnant fresh water to lay its eggs and this requires four to five days. The first recommendation is to eliminate any possible breeding ground from the internal or external spaces of the home.

How to avoid it?

Some recommendations to avoid the proliferation of the tiger mosquito are to avoid containers or objects that accumulate rainwater, keep swimming pools covered or other containers that must necessarily contain water, change the water in vases.

You can also keep the spaces cool as this keeps the tiger mosquito away. Of course, repellent products that are placed directly on the skin are a viable option.

Special care must be taken regarding these products and the instructions must be followed correctly to avoid allergic reactions or poisoning due to incorrect use. Another option is mosquito nets or protective screens on windows to isolate the environments and especially protect children from mosquito bites.
