Bagolaro

When and how much to water hackberry

The Celtis australis plant species is more commonly known by the name of Bagolaro. These plants are typical of the Mediterranean basin and do not require excessive care to grow even 20 meters in height. This type of tree does not need regular and frequent irrigation. In autumn and winter, seasonal rains are sufficient and with the arrival of spring watering must be dispensed once every two weeks. In summer, depending on the cultivation contexts, watering can be weekly, especially in the hottest months of July and August. Bagolaro trees do not fear long periods of drought, but to ensure ever luxuriant growth it is good to not lack the correct water supply, which is essential for continuous development.

How to take care of the hackberry

The specimens of Bagolaro do not have many cultural needs, which is why they are often used to decorate avenues and city parks. It is an ideal species even for the less experienced and adapts to impervious and arid territorial contexts. In fact, they are not afraid of stony, calcareous and not very fertile soils, while they are affected by excessively cold and icy climatic conditions. In any case, the ideal substrate is composed of soil and coarse sand, which guarantees the correct drainage of irrigations. At the time of planting it is important to choose a large enough place to place the Bagolaro trees taking into account the space to be left for the development of the root system. Pruning is only necessary to eliminate dry and damaged branches.

When and how to fertilize the tree

Young Bagolaro plants need periodic fertilization, especially at the time of planting. In fact, it is advisable to mix a good dose of mature manure to the soil before planting. In this way, the rooting process is facilitated, supplying the plants with all the nutrients necessary for fast growth. Already adult trees are much more autonomous, but if the specimens live in a very poor and arid environmental context, it is important to dispense, at certain times of the year, some slow-release granular fertilizer rich in the main macroelements. To choose the appropriate products and the most suitable solutions for the cultivation of Bagolaro, it is advisable to always contact the nurseries or specialized retailers.

Bagolaro: Exposure, diseases and possible remedies

Bagolaro trees can grow without too much difficulty in partial shade. However, the ideal exposure for this genus of deciduous plants is very sunny and very bright. In fact, it is necessary to ensure a sufficient amount of light every day for the development of leaves and branches. In general, this type of plant is considered very resistant to parasitic attacks and fungal diseases. If the correct drainage of irrigations is not ensured, the roots may be affected, leading to radical asphyxiation and the consequent deterioration of the specimens of Bagolaro. To avoid this dangerous eventuality, it is advisable to check the state of the substrate, taking care to guarantee a soil that is always very well drained and free of water deposits.
