We all know what a barbecue is, but only those who love it and really live it can testify to others what it represents. In fact, the secret of the global success of the barbecue, in addition to its substantial simplicity, is the ability it has to involve people, bring them together, make them harmoniously be together around hot food. From here was born a story that has lasted for about forty years now, made of word of mouth that started from the open and beautiful gardens of the villas in the United States of America and has come to involve almost the whole civilized world, with some due exceptions to ideologies reluctant to accept influences from external cultures, indeed really contrary and limiting freedom (Far Eastern countries). Today the barbecue is loved and widespread in the world, and is among the most purchased garden furniture; but certainly not all of us have the same barbecue, and this is another secret of success: customization made through accessories. Barbecue accessories have been introduced galore over the years, and we’ll talk more about them later; we will also analyze their influence on the price and the real value of the complete object, which is very important for consumers who want to approach the world of barbecue.

Accessories and prices


The accessories for the barbecue were born over the years in which this very functional but simple piece of furniture for gardens has spread around the world; in essence, most of them have been introduced or invented to make the barbecue itself even more practical and usable. Let’s think for example of the combined sale of sets of forks, tongs and the like which are now inseparable from the barbecue itself; they are essential when we go to cook food, because they help us to maintain a certain level of hygiene, but above all not to burn our hands when we take cooked food from the grill and place it in some tray. And here we come to another accessory, the food tray that is characterized by the materials and sizes suitable to be placed on the shelf next to the barbecue in order to facilitate the storage of freshly cooked food and its easy transport. These are some of the more classic accessories, but there are also other types of accessories that we could define more as real barbecue “optionals”; an example is the famous combination of oven and barbecue, even if in this case a large and expensive unit is obtained, no longer easily movable and therefore almost fixed in the garden. However, all this affects the cost, given that each «plus» has an additional price share that very often we do not consider when we buy the whole package. Barbecue hood

One of the most fashionable accessories recently is certainly the barbecue hood; it could be roughly defined as the «lid» of the barbecue, and it can have more functionality. First of all, the models of barbecue hoods are many, and each of them has or does not have features that add some functionality. For example, a simple hood, or a real lid, is usually used either for particular cooking in which the dish requires total closure or is used to keep the fire in «standby» (if it has slits for a slight vent of air ) or to turn it off gradually (if it is totally closed, almost hermetic). As we have seen, already by listing these three general variants we have obtained a nice range of uses for the barbecue hood. But it’s definitely not over here, because the progress and the advancement of the market have generated further refinements to this accessory; one of them is the hood with smoke vent and independent door. These two not very large and bulky “details” have the power to completely transform the barbecue, as we will see in the next paragraph.

From barbecue to oven

Returning to the discussion of the previous paragraph, we can say that the barbecue hoodit has the ability, if properly equipped and conformed, to transform the barbecue from a barbecue into an oven. It sounds strange, but it is absolutely possible and above all effective. In fact, if the hood is built in the right material, but above all with a well-coordinated shape with the presence of the vent hole, the internal flows of heat and smoke will be almost those of a classic wood-burning oven, with the possibility of moving and above all to transform it back into a barbecue. In particular, if the barbecue is powered by wood, the oven will have all the qualities of a wood-burning oven as we all know it. Usually the materials used for the hood are metals, to which internal and external coatings are applied (not necessarily both, however) both for safety reasons and to facilitate heat retention and better cooking. Once the barbecue has been transformed into an oven, we can also use other accessories such as the dish holder, similar to the tool used by pizza chefs to bake pizza, which will also make cooking on the barbecue fun.
