Even a big city like Milan has learned to love the barbecue, which is used by many people to cook with friends and relatives on public and private holidays, but also because there is a desire for it simply. Yet Milan could have more than one problem in adopting the barbecue; in particular we want to dwell on two problems, one fictitious and one more concrete. The fictitious problem is the continuing protest of color who, uninformed on the subject, believe that anything that produces smoke (as the barbecue obviously does due to combustion) is a cause of pollution. And this fact, in a city that continually struggles against the maximum ceilings of fine dust by applying even partial (alternating plates) or total block days to traffic, can be a problem; however, we call this problem fictitious because in reality it is not the barbecues that cause the enormous doses of dust in the air, but other more unsuspected but much more harmful structures. The other problem is instead the climatic one; Milan certainly does not boast sunny days for most of the year, because it combines an extremely northern geographical position (compared to the average of Italy) but above all it has the problem of fog and a closed and gloomy sky that makes you want to go out and be outdoors.

Despite the problems we mentioned earlier, the Milanese have a good relationship with the barbecue, very often used in parties and meetings between friends and relatives not only in the gardens, but also in those terraces and large balconies where the rules of condominium and good neighborhood do not expressly prohibit this practice. And so many people living in Milan show up on Sunday morning on the terrace or in the garden armed with the desire to have a barbecue, jacket and hat (against humidity), a spirit of sacrifice. Nobody cares that it would be much more exciting and in tune with the gesture if the sun showed itself a little more instead of hiding behind the fog banks or the dark sky because it is never clear and clean, because in reality the desire to have fun and be in company near some cooking sausages is enough to feel really good. Among other things in Milan there are many people who look outside their culture, also inspired by living in a multiracial and multi-cultural city, so many come to appreciate this legacy of American culture and above all of the magnificent eighties (and seventies).

As for the food to put on the barbecue, there is no distinction between Milan and all the other cities and nations of the world; what is most often cooked on the barbecue is certainly meat, in all its types but with some preferences: skewers (in which you can also combine vegetables such as aubergines, peppers, etc., as well as cherry tomatoes) made with various types of meat (pork, chicken, wild boar, cow and veal), huge juicy steaks, sausages. In addition to meat then everyone, Milanese and not, love to make bruschetta, or toasted bread to be eaten then seasoned with chopped tomatoes. Not only that, fish also goes well with the barbecue, and to it we could add some crustaceans such as shrimp, which when cooked in the heat of wood and charcoal take on a much appreciated flavor.
