Houses and gardens

In the context of the construction of a personal home, the “garden” discourse is becoming more and more topical; now anyone who builds or has a house built is very unlikely to decide to give up the pleasure of owning a garden next to it. While a few years ago we privileged the exploitation of all the space available to build living spaces and apartments (in the name of the value of the total and other possibilities, such as homes for the children), today everything has totally changed. The reasons are various and can be attributed both to the different tax legislation on the house (the introduction of the tax on the house, based on its superficial extension, has made many families think about the real usefulness of a large house) and to other social reasons , like the difficulty of finding work close to home that pushes many young people to move, so much so that it is useless to build a house close to their parents’ house. But not only that, the garden near the house, in addition to being fashionable and being used to “show oneself” to friends and colleagues, is one of the best antidotes against the anxieties and stress that the rhythms of modern society impose on us. It is like a refuge, a corner of personal nature that allows us to detach ourselves from the heaps of concrete and computers that we see every day in our life; not only that, the necessary maintenance activities commit us and make us feel active and proud of what we do, giving us further serenity. the garden near the house, in addition to being fashionable and being used to “show oneself” to friends and colleagues, is one of the best antidotes against the anxieties and stress that the rhythms of modern society impose on us. Accessories and gardens

Having described all the very positive potential of our gardens, it is now necessary to specify how accessories are necessary to have a pleasant and comfortable garden. Like everything around us, the garden is also in a phase of development and evolution. While once the garden was a lawn with a few trees and a couple of flowering plants, today it is transformed into a multipurpose space where you can spend most of the day. There are those who equip it with kitchenettes under the gazebos, those who prefer a small but functional bathroom for emergencies and guests (without having to invade the house), those who use the spaces for a soccer goal or a basketball sets up a part of it as a parking lot for cars and mopeds. In short, the possibilities of choice are really many; to them is added the barbecue, the most successful garden accessory of the last decades. Leaving aside the beloved and much desired swimming pool, which however requires much higher space and economic possibilities, the barbecue has been the protagonist of a real rise to success in the space of a couple of decades starting from the seventies in America. It was then flanked by its evolutions, which we will discuss in the next paragraph.

Brazier

The brazier is an evolution of the barbecue, which however has characteristics so similar to those of its more famous cousin that it is forced to divide them into two different objects. Let’s say immediately that the original brazier was the one that was used to heat up; in the days of our grandparents, that is, speaking of the forties of the last century, almost all the houses did not have a heating system and did not have the possibility of having one; it was obviously remedied as best as possible, that is, by taking the cheapest and most available combustible material and lighting it to give that warmth necessary for the survival especially of children during the winter. It was not the safest method in the world, since even with ingenious and rudimentary systems for the expulsion of exhaust gases, there were many cases in which entire families remained intoxicated by the excessive accumulation of these burnt gases in closed environments, and there were also various cases of death. The most used fuel was wood, once very cheap, so much so that it could be found at no cost from the countryside that you went to work or in any case without too many problems from the trees that were everywhere.

Brazier for cooking

Having said the first and original use of the brazier, today however we want to analyze the brazier from the point of view of the kitchen and therefore of its proximity to the barbecue. The only distinction we can find between these two objects is that the brazier has a more rudimentary shape and finish; not only that, the dimensions of the burning surface are generally greater than that of the barbecue, especially in the sense of length. Another feature is the lack of special accessories, now ubiquitous on all barbecue models: side surfaces to support food trays, lid for special types of cooking or to protect it when it is stored and unused, rounded and well-finished shapes, swivel wheels for convenience transport. From these clarifications a rather rudimentary portrait of the brazier is born, as a simple iron construction with a somewhat elongated rectangular shape, for storing wood or burning coals and on whose simple grill to cook food for friends and relatives. As you can see, the distinction is not very clear with the barbecue, but it is often the marketing that requires certain clarifications.
