Carnivorous plants for sale

Introduction

Carnivorous plants are the most intriguing and fascinating plant species that nature has ever given us. These plants are also the subject of myths, legends and comic and cinematographic representations that depict them as «thinking» and «talking» beings able to interact with the external environment like people in flesh and blood. In reality, carnivorous species are simply very beautiful plants capable of feeding on insects. It is precisely this feature that makes them highly sought after, as well as of course their undeniable ornamental value. Botany has classified about six hundred different types of carnivorous plants, divided into five genera and more than twenty families. In spite of their wide notoriety, carnivorous plants are not easily cultivated and do not easily find space in apartments already full of indoor plants. The reason for this «absence» of carnivorous species in our homes is due to the difficulty of finding and purchasing the seeds or plants already adult. Carnivorous species, like other plants, are sold in garden centers, nurseries, but also by florists. It is possible that not all the stores near home are supplied with seeds of carnivorous plants or of the already adult species, but it is also likely that in some other store you can find a wide availability of carnivorous plants to choose according to your own personal tastes and the cultivation needs of these plants. Where to buy

Carnivorous plants, as already mentioned in the previous paragraph, are sold in garden centers, nurseries and florists. A wide availability of carnivorous plants is also found in e-commerce, which often refer to real garden centers. To acquire a carnivorous plant, simply contact the right sales channel. However, it is advisable that the point of sale is as close as possible to home, to avoid transport conditions that can stress or damage the plant. Alternatively, you can buy the seeds directly in the e-commerce. The online sale of seeds and carnivorous plants must, however, be carried out by well-known sellers, garden centers or nurseries who can be contacted at any time to ask for information on the characteristics of the chosen plants and the seeds to grow. An e-commerce for the sale of carnivorous plants is reliable when it contains the descriptive cards of the various species sold and the relative images. Consultation of the online catalog allows you to view the name and appearance of the chosen carnivorous plant and to know its cultivation needs.

How to choose

The choice of carnivorous plants should not only be made on the basis of one’s personal tastes, but also by evaluating the specific characteristics of the plants themselves. There are, in fact, carnivorous species that adapt to tropical climates and others that like more temperate environments. The aesthetic performance of adult carnivorous plants is also extremely variable. There are species with a purely «carnivorous» appearance, such as sundew, dionaea muscipula and cephalotus follicularis and others with a more delicate and discreet appearance, such as genlisea, utricularia and pinguicula. Even the temperature and humidity conditions of your apartment must be carefully considered before proceeding with the purchase of a carnivorous plant. Some carnivorous species require, in fact, high levels of temperature and humidity. However, there are also species that adapt very well to temperate climates and that do not require excessive care. The pinguicula, for example, includes both alpine and tropical varieties. This plant loves very humid substrates and has a very slender central stem from which sinuous and delicate violets develop. The advantage of this carnivorous plant is that the alpine variety resists even very low winter temperatures, allowing it to be placed outdoors as well. Those who cannot resist the undeniable charm of carnivorous species with a more aggressive appearance cannot give up having a «Venus flytrap» or dionaea muscipula at home, a perennial herbaceous plant also suitable for our temperate climates. The plant, although aesthetically fabulous, has round protuberances surrounding teeth, traps, which are used to capture insects. Dionea muscipula produces white flowers that are cut before sale to prevent them from weakening the entire structure of the plant.
