Drip irrigation system

How to make a drip irrigation system

Anyone can find out how to make a drip irrigation system, as it is a rather simple procedure. We start by applying to the tap, which delivers the water, a pressure reducer connected in turn to an electronic control unit, with which it will be possible to program both the quantity and the frequency of daily irrigations. The control unit must also be connected to a collector pipe with a diameter of 1/2 «, which constitutes the basic water distribution circuit. On it, with the aid of a hole punch, holes of identical diameter are made, from which the water is branched through the capillary tubes in the direction of the area to be irrigated.

Drip irrigation system for vegetable gardens

The drip irrigation system for gardens takes into account the fact that different crops require specific irrigation. In fact, some vegetables can avoid the onset of diseases thanks to the fact that the leaves are never wet. In the garden the water must be distributed only where and when it is needed, as well as in the right quantity, in this case, therefore, the presence of a timer is particularly important. The quality and complexity of the control unit is the element that most affects the cost of the system, consisting of a main circuit with backbones and as many branches as the bases of each plant. In addition to the collector tube and the capillary ones, a large number of fittings and drippers are required, equal to the number of plants to be irrigated.

Drip irrigation for home use

Home drip irrigation is a practical way to take care of plants, especially when you have little time or have to be away for long periods. The systems on the market consist of a tripod, adjustable in height, and a container with a capacity of approximately 25 liters. The system is powered by a common battery and is connected, via a pipe, to about 20 drippers. In this way it is possible to water a lot of plants at the same time. Less refined but effective is the use of common plastic bottles. As a rule, a small hole is made in the center of the cap, the bottle is filled with water, the cap is screwed on and it is inserted, from the neck side, into the ground near the plant. An alternative is to hang the bottle upside down, with a string, to a stake stuck in the ground,

Components of drip irrigation systems

Garden shops offer all components of drip irrigation systems. Pipes with holes are technically called dripping wings. Available in spools from 250 to 3000 meters, they can be of the light type, self compensating, for agricultural use and of variable flow according to the pressure. A variant is the pipes with hundreds of pores through which the water oozes and disperses into the ground, perfect for irrigating hedges, bushes, flower beds and lawns. The drip irrigation kits contain a pressure reducer, a manifold tube for the main distribution, at least 8 linear drip tubes with relative fittings and caps, adjustable drippers, accessory tubes and punches.
