Extraordinary behaviors

Although nature is extraordinary, too often man limits himself to wanting to exploit it for his own comforts and needs, to always wanting to control it to get what he likes, to wanting to dominate it when according to her it «opposes» what he wants. What we really should understand is how strong, powerful, amazing nature is: it is not the plant in the garden or the insect that flies from flower to flower, nature is everything that surrounds us, we are fruits of the power of nature, we have not created anything. Of course, it is true that we are among the most developed and evolved organisms, but this does not authorize us either to subdue other species or to destroy what surrounds us. If we just can’t convince ourselves then we have to think about how many wonderful organisms there are in nature: it is rich in demonstrations of adaptations that not even our imagination could have conceived, of evolutions that defy the laws of probability but which have occurred and have led some specimens of prehistoric species to live up to the present day (in other articles we have spoken for example of cycas, a «living fossil» plant). Every organism lives and «behaves» wonderfully, because it lives in nature.

Aquatic plants

There are many plants in nature and they manage to live in many different ways, worlds and climates; every botanical scientist knows that one could not even hope to know all the species present in the world, because in the most remote corners of our planet there are still unknown species that live with their great genetic secrets. One of the most extraordinary evolutions is the adaptation that some plants have had to become «aquatic»: just think of a normal plant that needs water to take on the nutrients with which it survives, but which in any case surrounds itself with air, earth , other plants. But one day (according to many scientists, presumably during a period of melting glaciers and therefore continuous floods) of plants, having to «choose» between dying or living with a lot of water, they took the second path and tried, according to the known mechanisms of Darwinian evolution, to develop the characteristics suitable for the «underwater» life. And the change is not just: one of the most famous activities of plants is chlorophyll photosynthesis, with which they develop oxygen by absorbing sunlight and carbon dioxide from the air (plus other substances they need) .. but how could it be done in water? Yet it still happens. but in the water how could it be done? Yet it still happens. but in the water how could it be done? Yet it still happens.

Echinodorus tenellus

It must be admitted that on our site we give a lot of space to the passions and hobbies of our time, especially those connected with nature such as gardening, but we never talked about the passion for the aquarium, which is very widespread and is also very interesting. Speaking of aquatic plants we are clearly approaching this discourse, as the setting up of an aquarium is not only an aesthetic question but also a functional one, as it is to recreate a perfect habitat for the host fish, and therefore the plants certainly cannot to miss. Echinodorus tenellus is a species of aquatic plant that is used a lot in freshwater aquariums, both for its beauty and elegance and for the ease with which it is cultivated, a consequence of a certain adaptability to different conditions. Suffice it to say that this small bush of long leaves in nature is found submerged, semi-submerged (typically in water so shallow that its usual fifteen centimeters of maximum height can emerge) or even completely emerged, mostly on the banks of rivers, lakes. or other large bodies of water. In fact, the plant is a little «initiated» to submersion, but it adapts easily and with the right precautions guarantees excellent results.

How to treat it

Echinodorus tenellus is a species of the Echinodorus group, the most widespread; in fact it combines an elegance, given by long filaments and a beautiful bright green, with ease of management. Its life develops easily with waters that can have characteristic values in very wide ranges: the temperature is not even indicated because it can withstand any excursion (to be precise with regard to non-aquarium experts, in them the thermal excursions are «forbidden», in as the fish are very demanding from this point of view), the pH can vary between 6 and 7.5, the GH between 4 and 20 degrees while the KH (potassium concentration) between 3 and 8 degrees. This plant has only one request to make to those who take care of it, that is an illumination between the values of medium-high and high intensity. This is the only thing that Echinodorus tenellus would not be recommended for aquarium neophytes, as intense lighting requires knowledge and a certain economic expense that is rarely found in a novice practitioner. However, the lighting is really essential, because the plant if it has lighting drops below 0.6 watts per liter (even if this is a measure of current on the volume of the aquarium) quickly yellow and die.
