Ficus golden king

Ficus golden king

The word Ficus encompasses fruit plants but also a wide variety of plants used for ornamental purposes. The term Ficus derives from the Latin and means Fig. In this genus, in nature, there are about 800 plants of different species that occur in the form of trees, shrubs and climbers. Their particular characteristic is that they are plants able to adapt to any type of environment and climatic conditions. Most plants belonging to this genus prefer to grow in places where temperatures are quite high, in fact they have great resistance to temperatures above 30 ° C. It must also be said that many of the varieties are used to growing in environments where there is a high amount of humidity (like our homes, in fact).

Cultivation

Ficus goldenking, like other similar varieties, needs to grow in environments where the climate is warm and humid at the same time. To obtain an optimal development it is advisable not to place these plants in outdoor places in periods in which the temperature could drop below 10 ° C. Good lighting favors a good development but it is good to know that these ficus do not like to be exposed to direct sunlight. As far as irrigation is concerned, it is important to pay the utmost attention because these plants do not like excess water, especially in the coldest periods. Too abundant watering could lead to the formation of rot on the root system, on the contrary, the lack of watering could lead to withering and fall of the leaves.

Curiosity

Ficus goldenking can be both spontaneous and breeding plants, obviously with some differences between them. Spontaneous Ficus can reach up to thirty meters in height while breeding ficus can reach a height of three meters. As for the humidity to be created around the plant, the advice is to place the pot on top of expanded clay or pebbles so that the soil remains only moist but not too wet. Remember that wet soils are harmful to our plants because they favor the formation of root rot. Being the ficus of plants for ornamental purposes, every now and then, they need some small pruning. Pruning must be performed during the spring by removing parts of the plant that make the foliage lose shape.
