Work in the garden

The garden is a part of the house we live in, like there are others, but in recent years the garden is becoming increasingly important. In fact, it is no longer just a space where you can have nice parties, sunbathe or let the children play a little in freedom; today it has become the best anti-stress, a place where we can both return from work and use it to relax in the silence of our own nature, with its flavors and colors with a relaxing effect like grandma’s valerian. But the biggest reason why it is the best anti-stress because the operations it requires for its treatment are the best you can find around to distract the mind from the thoughts of the day, as usual negative and stressful; indeed, engaging the body and mind in small jobs of maintenance and care of the garden is good for the body, the mind and the garden. It is precisely for this reason that the hobby of working in the garden is so widespread, the famous “green thumb” that only those who practice it can understand what it feels like, how good it is and above all how much you cannot stop recommending it to all your friends. .

Equipment needed

It is clear that to work in the garden, as well as to carry out any other activity, you need the right equipment. Have you ever seen a hunter without a gun, a lorry driver without a truck, an electrician without a charger? Not, and so there can never be even a garden enthusiast without his trusty tools. That these tools are nothing more than the true and profound tradition of working in the fields, of which gardening is only a modern and less serious and demanding variant, in fact it is the shovel, the rake, the spade, the hoe and of the wheelbarrow. These are the basic tools that will allow you to take care of both a three by four meter garden and an agricultural estate of several hectares. But there are differences, because between these two extremes there is a job that with manual tools would require hours and hours of effort; on the other hand, to guarantee above all the competitiveness of the agricultural industry, machines have been designed which have the same operating principles as the aforementioned historical equipment but which integrate with a much higher operating speed. Anyone has certainly seen one, because usually they are those machines pulled by tractors in the fields that we often see quickly working the whole field.

The flail mower

Today in this article we want to talk about an agricultural machine that does not take up the tasks of the basic equipment we were talking about, but is a direct descendant of it and above all integrates its work: it is the flail mower. Although the name is a bit like a tongue twister or a supercazzola, almost all of us have seen one of these machines without knowing it. They are widely used in the processing of gardens and fields in general because they have the task of shredding all the residues of soil maintenance to facilitate their disposal, making them easily decomposable by bacteria and therefore good for becoming fertilizer. The machine is built with a shape similar to a large roller, that is an external cylindrical shape inside which rotates an axis on which knives and blades are fixed; by “rolling” the cylinder on the ground, we will have that the knives will intercept all the residues of the previous processing (leaves, branches, tree trunks, stems and all the rest) and chop them, in order to avoid them becoming an obstacle for walking, for sight, for the growth of other plants and so that they act as fertilizer for the soil itself. From this description it is easy to understand how a flail mower is very useful, even in a garden with not exaggerated dimensions and with some fairly large plants. for the growth of other plants and so that they act as fertilizer for the soil itself. Models and dimensions

Just as we interpreted the role of shovel, spade, hoe, etc., noting that they were mechanized and transformed into enormous work machines, the same happens for the flail mower. It was born as a tool to be pushed by hand around the ground, or at the most by having it towed by some towed animal such as the ox or the donkey. Later, again with the aim of increasing the productivity of farms, it was decided to mechanize everything, increasing the size of the flail mower and connecting it to the process to make it tow. Apart from the differentiation for the scale and sizes, the flail mower exists in a single variant; the only difference can be made in the motor that moves the blades and in the material of the blades themselves, which can be studied for example for logs and less for grass, or vice versa. However, it must be clear that the first variable on which the price of such an agricultural machine is based is precisely the size, since all the other characteristics are then almost comparable and therefore make little difference in the decision of the selling price of the product on the market. . Last note: Italy, the world’s largest producer of flail mowers.
