House & Garden

The design of a garden: the first steps.

The design of the garden comes from the idea that you have. How do you imagine your garden? Picturesque, Californian, Japanese, Renaissance? The important thing is that it gives you maximum pleasure. The best teacher is mother nature. Adapt your garden to the climatic regime of the region in which you live. Pay attention to the essences you choose: if you are inexperienced gardeners, focus on plants that require little maintenance but an effective stage presence. Prepare an outline and indicate the elements that cannot be missing. You will have two groups: the plant elements and the furniture elements. For example, indicate the flower beds, the vegetable garden, the orchard, the rose bush for the first group; and for the second, the dining area, the place for tools or for children to play.

The design of the garden between artifice and nature.

Prefer natural, curved lines to straight ones. It will add depth to a small garden and offer interesting surprise ideas. Study the areas to be left on the lawn and the areas to be paved. Decide the appearance of the enclosure wall: if the garden is small, the flower bed can become cumbersome. Opt for climbing plants, considering that many of them need support. Better to choose those that do not need supports and those that grow with any exposure. Arrange points of attraction. An ornamental tree in a strategic position can give expressive strength to the external environment and the environment of the house. Plan for the planting of aromatic plants. Don’t miss the chance to have an extremely fragrant and rustic looking spot.

The connection between the garden and the house: the terrace.

The connecting element that best lends itself to creating a continuous environment between the house and the garden is the terrace. A good design means that this element can expand the spaces of the house and be used as a dining / living area on fine days. For this it will be necessary to identify some important elements. Orientation: we make sure that the terrace has shaded areas where we can place the table and chairs or we will have to create them by inserting vegetable or artificial shielding elements. The flooring: it could be envisaged to expand the garden onto the terrace by leaving pockets of soil to place decorative plants. In this case, pay attention to the essences you choose: it is better to select repellent plants that keep insects away.

Garden house: The garden furniture

Choose the furniture with the same attention by dividing it into two groups: fixed elements and mobile elements. The fixed elements could be, for example, wooden or stone benches. But also a fountain or a sculpture. While the mobile elements can be armchairs, small tables. Choose products that can offer comfort, that are easily movable, therefore light, and prefer light colors to dark ones: they will emphasize and be discreet spectators of your moments of relaxation. Do not forget that even the vases will be furnishing elements, choose them carefully also thinking that they will be the homes of your plants. Perhaps the most important advice: do not fill all the spaces in your garden. A vacuum, if designed well, can leave an extremely exciting mark.
