Indoor gardens

How to design indoor gardens: the garden at home

Decide on the style of your garden first. When you want to grow plants indoors, there are two ways to follow: using containers, pots or planters. Or, you can use a hydroponic or aquaponic system to grow the plants. This system is based on the immersion of plants in water. With the pots, you can use classic gardening techniques. Instead, a hydroponic garden is a particular type of indoor garden that uses fertilized water (sometimes with live fish inside). Each of the two types is a valid option for several reasons: growing in pots is a great option for those who decide later to rearrange the position of the plants or for those who want to move them outdoors later. The pots come in a large variety of sizes. Instead, hydroponic gardens are a good option for someone who is looking to produce a lot of plants in a small amount of space. Typically, hydroponic gardens are used for growing vegetables. Creating a successful indoor garden relies heavily on choosing an enclosed space that can help plants grow.

Interior garden design: how to choose the right location

Choose a room that has lots of windows and plenty of sunlight; usually, east and west facing windows are best. If possible, place your garden (potted or hydroponic) near a window to allow for more heat and sunlight. Don’t consider rooms that have low temperatures (such as an attic or garage); cold can kill or slow plant growth, while heat is generally welcome by your plants. Avoid choosing an area near an air vent or fan, as these can dry out the plants and cause them damage. The biggest reason why indoor gardens are designedis the ability to completely control the environment. While this requires more work, it greatly increases the success of your garden. There are three general things to check: air temperature, water frequency, and soil conditions. These features vary slightly depending on the garden, but fortunately there are some useful tools to make it easier to control the environment.

Interior garden design: the choice of plants

Just like an outdoor garden, there are a large variety of plants that can grow indoors including greens, berries, herbs, flowers, and decorative greens. Go to a nursery and start identifying interesting plants, perhaps asking the nursery for advice. You need to determine which plants can work well in your garden. Some plants will flower well indoors, others won’t. Some popular plants to grow indoors include the following. Among fruits and vegetables we find tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, carrots, radishes, beans, peas and mushrooms, strawberries, figs and grapes. Among the herbs and flowers there are basil, bay leaf, chives, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, tarragon and thyme, lily, pansy, calendula, begonia , cacti and succulents. Unfortunately, you can’t just take soil from your garden. Soil from outside often contains diseases and insects that can kill your plants over time, as well as rarely having the right balance of sand and clay for ideal porosity.

Internal gardens: Design of internal gardens: the hydroponic system

If you choose a hydroponic system, there are many different ways to design it, but they all follow the same path. You have to put a water tank on the bottom and the plants on the top. The fertilized water from the tank is fed by plants using a pump system and the water filters through the plants: the excess is discharged into the tank. Some variations of this system include: using fish in the tank. Freshwater fish naturally fertilize the water through their waste, creating an ideal mix for your plants. The hydroponics system must be chemically treated allowing drainage through the bottom. You will need to precisely drill holes in a vase that does not have them, so that the water can seep to the bottom. Instead of using soil, you will need to completely fill your pots with perlite which is a type of porous substance that works well for this type of garden. Then, plant the seeds and water them a lot. If you have purchased a hydroponics system, you must follow the directions on the package for use.
