Mobile scaffolding

The most versatile mobile scaffolding: scaffolding

The scaffolding is the element that from a statistical point of view has always determined the greatest risks for workers. For this reason, their production and installation has long been regulated by strict rules, often correlated with illustrative drawings, aimed at reducing and preventing accidents on construction sites. The most versatile mobile scaffolding are scaffolding, that is metal structures of steel or aluminum equipped with intermediate shelves which at the base have castors of suitable capacity, hinged on the vertical support elements; the wheels are equipped with brakes, ie mechanisms capable of locking the scaffolding to prevent any lateral movement. Another feature of the scaffolding is the presence of adequate diagonal metal braces bound to the vertical uprights.

Importance of the instruction booklet accompanying the scaffolding

Mobile scaffolding can be compared to real machines. For this reason, the manufacturer designs the scaffolding according to the rules of construction science, establishing the technical characteristics that must be strictly respected by the user. Each scaffolding is therefore always accompanied by an exhaustive instruction booklet which guarantees its correct functioning according to the methods of use and installation established by the manufacturer. Under what conditions is a scaffolding mounted in compliance with the standard? When the diagonal braces are suitably fixed to the uprights, the locking system is active on all wheels, the worktops have the necessary resistance and the parapets and foot stops are mounted. Finally, it is essential that the scaffolding is placed on a regular and stable surface.

The self-climbing mobile scaffolding

Among mobile scaffolding, self-lifting scaffolds based on the interaction of rack and pinion are increasingly used. Assembling and disassembling this scaffolding takes less time and less personnel than a traditional scaffold of the same height. They cannot always be used because their assembly requires bracing to the existing structure. They are therefore used in the finishing works of buildings and in the renovation of facades. The self-lifting scaffolding consists of two or more vertical steel uprights, anchored to the structure. They perform guiding functions (ascent and descent) and support the horizontal work surfaces, formed by a metal lattice platform, on which the safe movement of people and things takes place via an electric motor.

Mobile scaffolding: The work surfaces of mobile scaffolding

Whatever the type of scaffolding, all its work surfaces must always be protected by parapets no less than one meter high, in order to avoid the risk of falling from a height. The parapet, in turn, must be equipped with a longitudinal rail, positioned at a distance of no more than 60 cm from the worktop, and with a foot board in galvanized sheet (more rarely in wood), 20 cm high. The worktops, made of aluminum profiles and multilayer panels, are usually equipped with access hatches. In any case and before each use, it is good practice for the user to subject each element of the scaffold to a visual inspection; should he find any shortcomings he must absolutely not use it nor modify it.
