The Rose

The Rose, native to Europe and Asia, is considered one of the most beautiful flowers existing in nature. Belonging to the Rosaceae family, the queen of flowers, it includes about 150 species of which over 30 are spontaneous. There are climbing, creeping, bushy, sapling and single or double roses, each with different characteristics. The erect stems have leaves made up of 5 to 11 leaflets; the flowers are gathered in a corymb inflorescence and are solitary and hermaphrodite flowers. The number of petals of its beautiful flowers varies according to the species to which they belong. The calyx is made up of 5 sepals that can become similar to leaves in poor climatic conditions for their development. The resulting fruit is called “rosehip”, this has various sizes based on the species,

Cultivation

Roses are easy to grow plants, the only precautions and difficulties are found when they have to be pruned and when they are affected by parasites. Unlike other plants, roses need preventive care rather than aftercare when the problem is present. The most suitable soil for their cultivation is a well-drained soil, fertile and rich in limestone. As for irrigation, roses need water especially during the summer period but care must be taken not to favor water stagnation that is harmful to the plant. Watering should be done in the morning in the spring, in the evening in the summer. It is advisable to water the plants at the base so as not to wet the flowers and cause fungal diseases, as water and

Rose propagation: Rose propagation

The propagation of roses can take place in different ways: by cuttings, by division, by seed and by offshoot. The cuttings must be taken in the period in which the plant is at rest, in the autumn period after flowering. This technique can be used for bushy, climbing or miniature roses. As for propagation by offshoot, a flexible stem must be taken at the beginning of summer, it must be folded down and buried (all this must be done without detaching it from the plant). To keep it upright, use hooks and latches. The new roots will be born in spring, at which point it will be possible to divide the seedlings. Propagation by grafting takes place in autumn, just choose the rose seed we prefer and bury it respecting some specific conditions.
