Herbal teas

An herbal tea is a diluted aqueous solution capable of containing medicinal substances to be used orally. Herbal teas can be prepared using a single substance or a mixture of substances depending on the purpose. Herbal teas composed of several substances usually contain the following elements: the basic remedy, the specific substance for the cure; the adjuvant, the substance capable of integrating with the basic remedy; the complement, the substance capable of bringing a pleasant appearance; the concealer, a substance that improves the taste of the herbal tea. When preparing a herbal tea, the herb, fresh or dry, must be chopped up so that it can be used properly for the infusion. It is very important how much the herb is chopped in order to facilitate the extraction of the active ingredients.

For the realization of a correct herbal tea it is advisable not to mix non-homogeneous parts of the herbs. Therefore, the mixture between hard and tender parts of a plant should be avoided. A further suggestion is to never mix more than five herbs per herbal tea, so that unwanted interactions do not arise, with uncontrolled reactions on the organism.
