Ficus benjamin diseases

Diseases and parasites

The ficus is a tall plant whose dimensions can be contained and which is able to decorate any space with glossy and elegant leaves; since it is not a native plant, for cultivation in Italy it requires closed spaces and for this reason it is usually found as a houseplant. Cultivation in an enclosed space, however, does not preclude the ficus from being prey to diseases and parasitic attacks. Cochineal and mites are among the main enemies of the ficus: the infestation of these tiny insects, if not countered, is able to kill the plant in a short time. Only secondarily it is necessary to protect the ficus also from mold and fungal diseases, which are less widespread if the climatic and environmental conditions are optimal.

The presence of fungi, on the other hand, will more easily lead to leaf rot or to the appearance of larger spots. Once the problem has been identified, if the infestation is at an early stage, it will be sufficient to eliminate all the parasites present with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol. In the case of resistant pests or in case of widespread diffusion, however, it is necessary to resort to
