Mushrooms are a rare crop but worth growing in your garden. Some mushrooms cannot be cultivated and can only be found in the wild, but there are many varieties that are easy to grow and are a perfect complement to your annual production. Growing wine mushrooms is very easy and rewarding as long as you provide the right conditions. Read on to learn more about growing wine cap mushrooms and growing wine cap mushrooms.

How to grow wine mushrooms

Growing wine mushrooms works best if you buy a kit of equipment that has been inoculated with mushroom spores. Start in the spring to ensure a harvest at some point during the growing season.

Wine cap mushrooms ( Stropharia rugosoannulata ) grow best outdoors in a sunny place. To create a raised mushroom, place a border of at least 10 cm high made of ash blocks, bricks or wood. You want about 3 square feet per pound of inoculated material.

Fill the interior space with 6 to 8 cm of a mixture of half fertilizer and half fresh wood chips. Spread your inoculated spore over the area and cover it with 2 cm of compost. Water it well and continue to keep the area moist.

Taking care of wine capsules

After a few weeks, a white layer of fungi should appear on the compost. This is called the mycelium, and it is the base of their mushrooms. Finally, the stems of the mushrooms should appear and open their caps. Harvest them when they are young and make sure you can identify them as wine mushrooms before eating them.

It is possible that spores from other mushrooms will settle on your mushroom farm, and many wild mushrooms are poisonous. Consult a mushroom guide and always make a 100% positive identification before eating a mushroom.

If you let some of your mushrooms continue to grow, they will deposit their spores in your garden, and next year you will find mushrooms in all kinds of places. It’s up to you to decide whether you want it or not. At the end of the summer, cover your mushroom house with 2 to 4 cm of fresh wood chips – the mushrooms should come back in the spring.
