The term «greasy grass» is used to indicate the different species of Pinguicola belonging to the Lentibulariaceae family. These are small insectivorous plants, characterized by leaves that open to form a small rosette adhering to the ground, from the center of which small purple flowers grow on thin stems. Although they are not native to the Old Continent, these plants are very widespread and it is not uncommon to find them as spontaneous vegetation in Europe, as well as in North America, North Asia, Central and South America. Depending on the species, the characteristics of the plant will vary, but they all share the rosette arrangement of the leaves, which are covered with a special down that allows the capture of insects and allows their digestion.
