15 Types and Varieties of Most Famous and Delicious Grapes

Worldwide, around 10,000 to 20,000 thousand varieties of grapes have been cataloged. It is estimated that some 13 varieties are those that occupy around a third of the total area of the vineyards.

The success of the existing wine varieties on the market will largely depend on the dedication of the vine crop farmer, as well as good pruning, irrigation, fertilization, anti-plague treatments and the use of high-tech and high-quality strains. National and international.

Characteristics that identify the quality of the resulting wines will be obtained from these grape varieties, which can be produced with one or more grapes capable of giving the aroma, body and color of the wine.

In the case of Spain, many traditional varieties are preserved that, although they are now made with modern techniques, the primary value of the fruit is still respected. Such is the case of red Garnacha, Graciano, Listan Negro, Verdejo, Godello, Albariños, among others.

The total number of varieties identified in the so-called Vineyard survey carried out by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture shows the existence of up to 176 varieties of grapes used to make wine, but also table grapes or musts.

But there are also the so-called international varieties, identified with the Cabernet Sauvignon, belonging to one of the most widely planted species on the planet, occupying 5% of the world’s wine -growing area, equivalent to some 340,000 hectares.
